  • Where does the tour start and finish?

The tour will start and finish in Darwin. It commences with a morning meeting in Cullen Bay with your group and tour escort. The exact meeting point and time will be advised in your final documents.

You will need a night of pre-tour accommodation in Darwin. It is recommended that you stay at one of the hotels in Cullen Bay, but you are welcome to stay in the Darwin CBD or surrounds. You will need to make your own way to the meeting point.

The easiest way to get to Darwin is by flying in through Darwin International Airport (DRW). The airport accommodates both international and domestic flights.

  • How long is the tour? How many cycling days?

The tour is 5 days long all of which are cycling days.

  • What's the trip like?

This trip is for almost anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and competent cycling and swimming ability. This adventure is designed for the enthusiastic and adventurous in search of something different. This trip has been graded at a moderate to challenging level. However, some days will be quite active involving sustained cycling in hot weather on a mixture of tar and dirt roads. As a support vehicle accompanies you on the journey, the option to have a rest from cycling and ride in the vehicle is available.

These adventures are best prepared for with some regular moderate exercise. As always with adventure travel, you should enjoy a healthy lifestyle before undertaking this trip. Please bear in mind that because you will be traveling into a remote wilderness, creature comforts are limited.

Your level of fitness can also help you acclimatise to the warm temperatures and humidity which can be up to the high 30s, so a bit of cycling, swimming, walking, and jogging is suggested to get yourself ready for the Territory! The best preparation for your cycle is day-long trips involving some ascents and descents and in variable weather conditions.

  • What's the weather like?

Generally speaking, the weather is fine, rain‑free and there is plenty of sun between May and October. The days are quite warm from May to November (tops of around 35°C) and evenings can be cooler (down to around 15°C). Mid dry season (Jun‑July can be cold at night down to around 5°C in Katherine).

As the wet season approaches (Oct/Nov) there are sometimes spectacular thunderstorms which provide relief from the humidity. Throughout the year we can swim in crystal clear, spring fed pools.

  • Will there be luggage transfers?

Your luggage will be transferred between each accommodation. Please keep your luggage to one bag per person, that weighs less than 15kg.

  • What is a supported cycle tour?

A supported cycling trip in Australia is ideal for those of you who love being able to explore at your own pace, while still enjoying the camaraderie of like‑minded travelers and appreciating the support from a knowledgeable driver/escort.

On a supported cycling holiday, you get to experience the freedoms of a self‑guided bike tour with the social aspects that come with a small group tour. Along for the adventure is your driver/escort, who provides daily luggage transfers, itinerary briefings, coffee breaks and picnic lunches while also offering the peace of mind that comes with breakdown assistance and battery charging.

A supported bike trip is an unforgettable Australian experience.
