Hawke's Bay is a stunning coastal district located on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island. A world class wine region, complete with over 200kms (124mi) of cycling trails that are flat, safe and peppered with wineries, food and famed Kiwi scenery. Similar in climate and wines, Hawke's Bay has been likened to the Mediterranean of the Pacific, and rightly so. Long, sunny summers and mild winters make this a year-round destination ideal for cycling. In addition, the New Zealand government and local councils have developed a network of incredible cycling trails that are flat, easy, off-road and great fun to ride. It almost goes without saying that Hawke's Bay is also a world-class wine region. Great wines come from here, and with that come great cellar doors and wineries to visit.
This 5 day/4 night self-guided ‘Tour de Hawke's Bay’ will suit those looking for a leisurely cycle tour and to experience the best that this gorgeous region has to offer. For wine lovers, the cycling on day 2 is a highlight, as you will be picked up from the Gimblett Gravels Appellation at the end of the day so you can enjoy the many cellar doors (about 11) without having to cycle home to your accommodation! Ride the river trails in the morning then enjoy the afternoon at the wineries.
All in all, a fabulously relaxing tour with plenty to discover and delight along the way.
This is a self guided tour with departures that can start on WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, subject to accommodation availability. Please note there is a AU$100 per person supplement added post booking for tours that run over any New Zealand public holidays and long weekends.
