Like much of Scandinavia, Sweden is blessed with jaw-dropping natural beauty. Deep blue archipelagos, snow-capped mountains, wonderful coastline, and the dancing Northern Lights make this country the envy of Western Europe. Combine this with an obsession for fantastic food, fashion, and design, and grabbing your bike for an adventure here will make you feel like you are riding through an unreal movie set.

There is just so much to relish when cycling in Sweden but without a doubt, its crown jewel for two-wheel lovers is the spectacular Kattegattleden route that runs a whopping 370 km (230 mi) along the West Coast from Halland to the capital of Gothenburg. This beautiful ride - Sweden’s first national route - leads you through an assortment of picturesque fishing villages and charming cities, with epic coastal views accompanying every turn of the pedals.

Kattegattleden’s beauty lies in its variety - so one day you can be enjoying the stunning beach at Tylösand, while the next you can be stepping back in time at Tjolöholm Castle, Sweden’s only Tudor castle before you set off again skidding through the lush nature reserves that are practically a permanent feature of the trail.

Feeling like a treat? Then after biking through the spectacular rocky landscape of the Kullahalvön peninsula, you will reach the foodie obsessed city of Höganäs. Farm shops are aplenty here, while some excellent vineyards also offer temptation.

However, one of the best parts of this incredible route is the approach to the city of Gothenburg, where cliffs, verdant forests, gorgeous bays, and small harbours will leave you breathless. The cute seaside village of Särö will quickly have you snapping away with your camera en route too.

Gothenburg’s charm lies in its lovely canals, ocean breeze, excellent seafood and the fact it is relatively small and thus easy to explore by foot or by cycling. Lovely parks, excellent food halls, easy access to the neighbouring islands, plus awesome views from the likes of the 17th-century fortress, Skansen Kronan, mark this city out as a unique spot to explore.

Of course, there is also the small matter of the gorgeous capital of Stockholm, which split over 14 islands lures people in with colorful toy-box like buildings, cobblestone streets, and numerous historic sites such as the 13th-century Storkyrkan Cathedral and the Kungliga Slottet Royal Palace. Like the rest of Sweden, cyclists are warmly welcomed and exploring on two wheels is a lovely experience.

However, if you want to reach Stockholm with a backpack full of stories consider tackling the whopping 2500 km (1553 miles) Baltic Sea Cycle Route. This incredible route leads you through all the best of Sweden’s incredible scenery and takes you through the capital before finishing up on the south coast. But, regardless of where you point your wheels in Sweden, you will be guaranteed of a spectacular journey and a lifetime of memories.
