  • Where does the tour start and finish?

The tour starts and finishes in the city of Kuching. Flights can be taken via Kuching International Airport (KCH).

  • How long is the tour? How many days of riding?

This tour is 8 days long, with 6 riding days.

  • How many riders will be in the group?

Groups can be from 2 to 16. For groups of 9 or more, a second guide joins the tour.

  • What's the tour like?

You’ll ride 231 km over 6 cycling days, designed to showcase a diverse range of Sarawak’s terrain and scenery, including rural areas, jungles, wetlands, and coasts. Daily distances range from 30 to 60 km, allowing for a leisurely pace to fully enjoy the surroundings and other activities. To avoid busy highways and keep the distances manageable, most days will include some time in the support van either before or after the ride.

Your guide will keep you informed about upcoming distances and difficulties, making the journey more enjoyable. Plus, you'll have constant access to water and refreshments. The tour is fully supported with a vehicle following you at all times, except on Day 1 when you’ll be riding in Kuching.

The cycling is complemented by various opportunities to immerse yourself in Sarawak’s natural and cultural heritage. You’ll spend a night in the indigenous village of Annah Rais, two nights in a Chinese-Buddhist village near Siniawan, and enjoy a kayaking trip and a visit to Fairy Cave. A highlight for many is the chance to see the famous orangutans. While sightings aren’t guaranteed, if you miss them on Day 4, you’ll have another opportunity on Day 7.

Suitability: This tour is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Though the daily distances are manageable, the heat and humidity of equatorial Borneo can be intense. The terrain features gentle gradients, so climbing isn’t too strenuous, and no technical riding is required. A support vehicle will always be nearby to assist any weary cyclists. All riding takes place on paved roads, so if you’re seeking off-road experiences, this tour might not be for you.

Biking Conditions: The road surfaces are paved and generally in good condition, though you might encounter potholes and loose gravel. The route is designed to feature quiet roads with minimal traffic, but near towns or popular spots, expect to share the road with cars, motorbikes, and buses. Rain is common in Borneo and can impact cycling conditions; however, the ride usually continues rain or shine, with route adjustments made based on the guide’s discretion or your comfort level. It’s all part of the adventure!

  • Do I have to pay if travelling alone?

You are not required to pay a surcharge for travelling alone. The tour operator will arrange for you to share accommodation with another traveller of the same gender. If you cannot be matched, they will provide a single room at no extra charge. If you prefer not to share, a single supplement is payable to guarantee your own room.

  • What food is available?

    Food

Meals are included as per the itinerary. Most meals are local Malay food and feature noodles, rice, curries and soups. Any special dietary requirements can also be catered for as well. Please let us know at the time of booking.

    Drink

Keeping you completely hydrated is a job taken very seriously. Cold water, some energy-restoring local fruit and soft drinks are included in the tour price while riding. Soft drinks and other beverages during meals are not included. We are riding in a Muslim country and though beer is available, it might not be served in some halal restaurants where we will eat. If you choose to purchase some beer please note it is NOT included in the price.

  • Are helmets included when hiring a bike?

Yes, if you're hiring a bike from the operator, a complimentary helmet is provided, although you are welcome to bring your own if you wish.
