  • Where does the tour start and finish?

    The tour starts at the Tour Operator's office in Launceston, Tasmania. Flying in can be made through Launceston Airport (LST).

    It finishes in Hobart which is served by the Hobart International Airport (HBA). Alternatively, a transfer back to Launceston is available at no extra charge.

  • How long is the tour? How many cycling days?

    The tour is 6 days long with 5 days of cycling. On some days, cycling is optional depending on what you choose to do.

  • What's the trip like?

    This self guided trip involves cycling and some optional day walks if you prefer. Daily activities are usually between 5 and 7 hours but some days might be longer depending on your overall pace when riding a bike with panniers, which will house all your needs for the trip. You will cover up to 77km in a day, often on undulating and winding roads. You will need to be confident cycling on roads and it is essential that you have road cycling experience. The route followed on this trip is on roads that will, at times, have no shoulder.

    Being a self guided trip you determine the pace and schedule. You will need a good level of fitness and good health and be a confident and capable cyclist to complete the distances. Be prepared for potential variable weather conditions which can also add to the timing and comfort of a trip, for example riding into a head wind will take more time than when the wind is behind you.

    Most of the cycling throughout the trip is on roads including highways.

  • Will there be luggage transfers?

    No, you will be provided with panniers at the start of the trip to carry what you need for your entire journey. Any extra luggage can be kept in your suitcase and the Tour Operator will organize its transfer from Launceston to Hobart for you.

  • Do I need to be a capable cyclist?

    Yes, you need to be a capable cyclist. You will cover up to 77km in a day, often on undulating and winding roads. You will need to be confident cycling on roads and it is essential that you have road cycling experience. The route followed on this trip is on roads that will, at times, have no shoulder.

  • Will there be a tour briefing?

    You will be contacted by the Tour Operator in the week prior to your trip commencing to organize the collection of your provided gear and a suitable time for your pre-departure briefing. This will usually be held at 7.30am on day 1 of the trip in their office at Launceston.

  • Can solo travelers do this trip?

    Unfortunately this isn't recommended for solo travelers. For safety reasons, the trip needs 2 people to operate.
