East Gippsland Family Rail Trail Tour
Enjoy a self-guided family cycle holiday exploring the East Gippsland rail trails with your loved ones over 7 days. The East Gippsland rail trail passes through farmland and forest through the low hills between the coast and the mountains in some of the greenest and most fertile country in Australia that still remains relatively undiscovered. Huge timber bridges, spanning rivers and forested valleys are a feature of the trail. With just a few small towns along its 100 km (62 mi) length, this is a trail of peace and solitude, with sightings of a huge range of wildlife commonplace.

The Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail is a narrower side branch that meanders down a forested valley before reaching the busy coastal holiday town of Lakes Entrance. This trip includes a rest day at Lakes Entrance where there are cruises, SUP and kayak hire, beach walks and lots of places to eat. A transfer back to the rail trail saves retracing the route back uphill to save small people's energy.
On reaching the end of the rail trail, a transfer out to the small coastal town of Marlo allows for exploration of walking tracks and safe swimming in the estuary where the Snowy River opens to the sea.
The tour runs from Bairnsdale to Orbost with a transfer back to Bairnsdale at the end of the tour. If you prefer to do the tour in reverse, from Orbost to Bairnsdale, then this can be arranged.
*For travel between December 24 and January 1, and over the Easter period a 10% surcharge applies.
