  • Where does the tour start and finish?

    The tour starts and finishes at the tour operator's office in South Hobart, Tasmania.

  • How long is the tour?

    Allow 60mins for the shuttle ride to the summit, followed by the road descent to the start of the North-South Track.

    The North-South Track takes between 60-120 minutes, depending on your riding ability and stop-offs.

    The ride back to Hobart on the City Cycleway takes 45-60 mins.

    Overall, allow for 3-4 hours for the tour.

  • Is there a guide?

    This is a self-guided tour with direction signs available on the North-South Track.

  • What should I bring?

    • Suitable riding clothes. Mount Wellington is well known for changeable weather conditions, so please dress appropriately and be prepared for anything!
    • Gloves are useful, especially if it's a bit cooler. There is a selection of gloves at the office, if required.
    • A small backpack is advisable for carrying any extra clothing, snacks etc.
    • Water and snacks - all the bikes are fitted with water bottle holders
    • Mobile phone

  • Is there a waiver that needs to be signed?

    All tour participants are obliged to sign a waiver prior to arrival. The waiver is 100% online. Participants will receive an email linking to the online waiver form.

  • Will the tour go ahead if it rains?

    When rain is forecast, customers will be contacted the day before their booked tour to check whether they are okay to ride in potentially wet conditions. This is your opportunity to cancel and receive a full refund as per the terms below.

    Outside 24 hours before the tour departure time - 100% refund
    Inside 24 hours of the tour departure time - 50% refund

    If there are dangerous weather or trail conditions, causing the organiser to cancel the tour from going ahead, you will have the option to either reschedule or receive a 100% refund.

    Dangerous weather includes lightning, torrential rain, extreme winds, bush fire, icy trails, and snow.

  • How difficult is the trail?

    The track is suitable for mountain bike riders of intermediate ability and fitness. It is classified as a 'blue trail' based on the International Mountain Bicycling Association's difficulty rating system.


  • What's the bike hire like?

    Bike hires are the following:

    Scott Genius 940 - small to x-large frame
    Scott Rockster 26 - suitable for 9-12 years old
    Scott Scale 24 - suitable for 8-10 years old

    The bikes are either high-spec dual suspension or hardtail with disc brakes, dropper posts and wide tyres.

    Upon booking, your height will be asked to match with a suitably sized bike. Groups will be provided with basic tools and a spare tyre tube in case of punctures.

    Helmets are included in the tour with the option to hire knee and elbow pads, please contact us for this.
