  • Where does the tour start and finish?

The tour starts and finishes at the tour operator's office in South Hobart, Tasmania.

  • How long is the tour? What time does it depart?

The tour takes approximately 4 hrs and starts at various times throughout the year:

    9:00AM (1 October - 31 March)

    10:00AM (1 April - 30 September)

Arrive 15 minutes before departure time.

  • Is there a guide and vehicle support?

For the summit road descent, there will be a minibus following immediately behind the last rider.

For the Pipeline Track, you will have a trail guide riding with you, all the way back to South Hobart.

  • What should I wear?

Comfortable active wear, gloves, and shoes with covered toes are recommended. If the weather is cool or raining, bring something warm and waterproof.

  • What should I bring?

A lightweight backpack, snack, drink, phone and sunblock are recommended.

  • Is there a waiver that needs to be signed?

All tour participants are obliged to sign a waiver prior to arrival. The waiver is 100% online. Participants will receive an email linking to the online waiver form.

  • Will the tour go ahead if it rains?

When rain is forecast, customers will be contacted the day before their booked tour to check whether they are okay to ride in potentially wet conditions. This is your opportunity to cancel and receive a full refund as per the terms below.

Outside 24 hours before the tour departure time - 100% refund
Inside 24 hours of the tour departure time - 50% refund

If there are dangerous weather or trail conditions, causing the organiser to cancel the tour from going ahead, you will have the option to either reschedule or receive a 100% refund.

Dangerous weather includes lightning, torrential rain, extreme winds, bush fire, icy trails, and snow.

  • Is it suitable for children?

In principle, yes, the trip is suitable children - last year, the operator had riders aged between 6 and 78!

However, there are limited kids bikes and the operator also likes to have a higher ratio of guides to riders when there are children on rides so do contact us to check before booking.

Also note that on the summit road, children need to ride between parents. They have the option to skip the road ride section if they are not keen and ride in the bus instead for this short initial section. Or, if the operator assesses that the young riders may not be competent enough to do all or part of this first section, the young rider will need to hop on the bus for this initial stage.

  • What's the tour like?

Riders should be comfortable on a bike, with good basic bike handling skills.

The ride is relatively easy, and the off-road track is wide and relatively smooth. The surface is a mixture of compacted dirt and gravel.

The descent from the summit follows a bitumen road that is shared with cars, vans, and buses. While most riders are comfortable riding on the road, we understand that some may not. Therefore, there is the option to come down from the summit in the minibus, following the other riders.

The ride is downhill almost all the way, so you don't need to be particularly fit for this ride.
