Itinerary Details

  1. Day 1Arrival

Arrive in Mudgee under your own steam. You'll head to your accommodation which will be based on the level you have chosen when booking.

Mudgee is a relatively compact town and most venues are within easy walking distance.

  2. Day 2Wine and cycle tour day

After breakfast take a short walk to collect your bikes and helmets (BYO if preferred). Being a self-guided tour you have the freedom to stop where you like or skip some of the suggestions if so desired. Lunch is booked for you but all other visits are at your leisure. The itinerary covers approximately 20 km (12.4 mi) of flat and easy cycling.

Head out of Mudgee for approximately 30 minutes before arriving at Lowe Family Wine Co. and enjoy a wine tasting there. Perhaps try the Zinfandel varietal at Lowe Winery, this iconic red wine made by David Lowe is considered by many to be one of the best in Australia, with the 2003 Reserve winning the prestigious International Zinfandel Trophy in 2005.

Leaving Lowe's you'll head towards Oatley Winery for another wine tasting. Taste from a huge selection of wines from some of the oldest vines in Australia in the cavernous cellar door. The Craigmoor vineyard is home to the first chardonnay plantings and the Montrose vineyard has Australia's oldest Sangiovese and Barbera. The next cellar door recommended is Pieter Van Gent, a 10-15 minute cycle away. Visit the authentic barrel hall where you can taste wines including the famous and original Mudgee White Port.

Lunch calls! Head to Di Lusso Estate where a lunch booking has been made for you at Cucina di Lusso. Superb food awaits with obviously a great wine list. A platter lunch is included in your tour with any drinks to be paid for upon leaving.

There are many wineries around di Lusso if you're still keen to taste wines. The tour operator recommends finishing the day's riding back into Mudgee with a visit to Mudgee Brewing Co where you can sample a Mudgee Porter, Wheat or Pale Ale brewed on site in the 100-year-old wool store then slake your hunger pangs with heaty servings of fish and chips or roo pie. You can then drop off the bikes.
