Bridges, Bungy, wineries, cheesery, tavern, brewery… ohh yeah! Enjoy a one day self-guided cycle tour of the Queenstown wine region with an abundance of things to see and do. The highlight of the tour are the wineries but the splendid rides, breathtaking views of the Arrow and Kawarau Rivers plus the delicious cafes on the trail are also noteworthy. With 25km of pleasant riding, this is a quick yet satisfying ride from Queenstown to Arrowtown.
This 'Bike The Wineries' full-day trip begins with a scenic shuttle transfer from Queenstown to Arrow Junction, close to the quaint gold mining village of Arrowtown. Here you'll be fitted to your bike, get the low down on navigation, bike safety and very importantly; winery information. Start your scenic morning ride along the beautiful Arrow and Kawarau Rivers to the Kawarau Suspension Bridge – home of the world-famous Bungy jump.
From the bungy, spend the afternoon biking at your leisure along the Gibbston River Trail using the informative winery map you'll be given to visit up to 7 wineries linked throughout this easy riding trail. Enjoy a relaxed lunch en route or picnic at one of the many wineries if you prefer.
At the end of the day, you'll be picked up from the winery of your choice and shuttle back Queenstown so taste as many wines as you like as the driving part has been taken care of for you.
The riding distance to the first winery is 15km. To get all the way to the end of the wine valley you’ll end up covering about 25km so the distance is variable depending on where you decide to end. Children are welcome on this tour with discounts available.
This tour is available during the summer months of September - April. If you like the sound of this trip but would prefer a later start there is also a 3/4 day version or 1/2 day tour.
Note: To ensure you have an awesome experience at the wineries, it is best to book your tastings and lunch in advance, particularly for groups of 6 or more. The Tour Operator can help with timings once you have booked. The wineries are independently owned and operated, so tastings are not included in the price of this ride package, but the average cost is around NZ$20pp per winery.
