Well, this is the beautiful peninsula Istria. There is a reason it is known as the ‘Adriatic Tuscany’ and you’ll soon discover it for yourself when you go on this adventure and explore by bike. The highlights of this tour are widespread, whether it’s the cute streets of Buje that ooze beauty or the natural rollercoaster of the Captain Morgan trail.
Throughout the tour, magnificent sights and tastes are combined as the world’s finest wines are sampled at mesmerising vineyards. Alongside the delicious cuisine, is a particular highlight before heading for the Parenzana trail – a famous railway line that snakes along the Istria peninsula.
A maze of vineyards, delightful tunnels and ancient bridges present themselves along the way and make for serene riding. But there is something even better to come as you approach the Captain Morgan trail.
This action packed day begins with a breeze down the coast before heading into the magical forests of Kontija that double up with beautiful views of Lim Bay and the ruins of the medieval town Dvigrad. The latter was devastated by the plague and it is told that this was caused by an ancient curse from Captain Morgan’s buried treasure. It’s a humdinger of a story!
Such glorious moments continue to flow as you ride through the reserve Palud, which packs in a wide range of fauna and creatures before reaching the largest city of Istria – Pula. This Adriatic gem is perched atop seven hills with an astonishing Roman Amphitheatre on display that competes with Rome’s Coliseum.
After this last bewitching spell of history, the trip is concluded with a glorious ride along the coast to Cape Kamenjak. It makes for a relaxing way to round things off as you glide past calming seas, spectacular gulfs, bays and white beaches while looking back on an incredible journey.
